“One nation under God”

Every K of C Council meeting begins with a prayer and the Pledges of Allegiance to our beloved Country.

On April 30, 1951, the Board of Directors of the Knights of Columbus adopted a resolution to amend the Pledge of Allegiance to add “under God” after the words “one nation” when they recited the Pledge before each meeting. Over the next two years the idea spread throughout the K of C and our country. The phrase “under God” was incorporated into the Pledge of Allegiance on June 14, 1954 by a Joint Resolution of Congress.

Within the Fourth Degree Assembly, The Patriotic Degree, members designated as Sir Knights have an opportunity to participate in the Color Corps (CC).  The CC demonstrates by its presence the commitment of the Knights of Columbus to the community served by the Assembly.  Activities of the CC include providing an Honor Guard at member Knights, Sir Knights and their spouses' funerals, when requested, as well as first communions, confirmations, parades and significant religious celebrations or dedications.
